Note on constructal theory of organization in nature

چکیده
In analyses of engineering systems, fundamental quest remains the distribution of certain entities (matter, energy) into the space. Thus certain definite forms are generated to serve a specific purpose. Bejan s constructal theory specifically deals with such optimal geometrical constructions. In this present article, equipartition theory is revisited from macroscopic standpoint. It is noted that equipartition principle is a corollary of a more generalized formulation— the constructal theory. It is seen that equipartition principle leads to certain power laws with which certain entities are distributed. This constitutes a deterministic law of nature in some finite length and time scale. Thus equipartition principle is to be recognized as an authentic basis of design for most efficient systems, which in turn obeys constructal principle of organization in nature. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. The constructal law of design and evolution in nature.
Constructal theory is the view that (i) the generation of images of design (pattern, rhythm) in nature is a phenomenon of physics and (ii) this phenomenon is covered by a principle (the constructal law): 'for a finite-size flow system to persist in time (to live) it must evolve such that it provides greater and greater access to the currents that flow through it'. This law is about the necessit...
متن کاملConstructal design of tree-shaped conductive pathways for cooling a heat generating volume
Constructal design is used to study heat removal from a square heated body with a tree shaped high thermal conductivity pathways embedded in the body. The objective is to minimize the defined maximum dimensionless temperature difference for the body. The thermal conductivity of the body is low, and there is a uniform heat generation on it. The volume of the body is fixed. The amount of high con...
متن کاملComment Constructal law in technology, thermofluid and energy systems, and in design education Comment on “The Constructal Law and the evolution of design in nature” by Bejan and Lorente
It has been said many times in one form or another that there is nothing more understandable and practical than a simple theory. As engineers and scientists, we are always looking for a simple theory, law or equation in every engineering science to explain behaviours and to use as design tools. Examples of such simple theories are Bernoulli’s law in fluid mechanics [1], the first and second law...
متن کاملThe Life Giving Properties in the Structure of the Ganjali-Khan Square in Kerman based on Alexander’s Theory of Order
In studying the case studies of traditional architectures according to Christopher Alexander’s theory about “the nature of order” and the fifteen fundamental properties introduced, it is important to note that the ontology of the theory is based on human’s indigenous feeling about architecture, which subsequently implies these kind of studies to be based on people’s cognitive images induced fro...
متن کاملConstructal Optimizations for Heat and Mass Transfers Based on the Entransy Dissipation Extremum Principle, Performed at the Naval University of Engineering: A Review
Combining entransy theory with constructal theory, this mini-review paper summarizes the constructal optimization work of heat conduction, convective heat transfer, and mass transfer problems during the authors’ working time in the Naval University of Engineering. The entransy dissipation extremum principle (EDEP) is applied in constructal optimizations, and this paper is divided into three par...
